Killer Arab

Ever hear that The Cure song? "Killin' An Arab"? I have no idea what it was about, but it comes to mind every time I wear this scarf I was given by a friend in Saudi Arabia last year.

However, I've never made it look as good as T. did this morning. She looked exactly like the arabs I saw in Saudi arabia last year, except they were wearing extremely expensive leather coats. Still, she looks killer.

  1. Aloha SDesigns - thanks for posting such attractive photos. I have been working with off-camera lighting for 2 years and I am still working on it. I was noticing from your settings how your camera was set up what I'd like to know is how your lights were set up. Which lights do you use and with your camera set at 1/200, f18 and ISO of 200 this image should be very dark. Your lighting is very satisfying.

  2. Kirk,
I'm right about the same--2.5 years into this wonderful game of lighting. I'm glad that you're satisfied! It has been lots of fun discovering this sort of setup lately.

For this image, I'm using Alien Bees 400 with a 35" foldable softbox also from Paul C Buff. I know that the aperture is quite small, but the subject's face is only about one foot from the light. The reason I have her so close to the light is both to maintain maximum softness and create great falloff in the light so that the dark side is darker.

I'd love to provide any assistance I can! Feel free to contact me directly. 435-535-1501, photo.sdesigns@gmail.com
